Principal's Letter for September 2017

September 1, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy September!!!  Thank-you to everyone for a smooth start to our school year.  The students are settling into the routines quickly.

On Tuesday, September 12th, we will have our first School Advisory Council Meeting beginning at 5:00 pm, in the cafeteria at DeSoto Early Childhood Center. We value your input, so please plan on attending this important meeting.

Immediately following the SAC meeting we will have our Boosters meeting. The goal for our first Boosters meeting is to elect officers and set an agenda for the school year. I encourage you to consider joining our Boosters. The purpose of the Boosters Committee is to raise funds for needed supplies and materials for our students to use in the classroom and to celebrate our wonderful teachers and staff during appreciation week.

Get those smiles ready because picture day is Monday, September 11th for DECC and Wednesday, September 20th, for New Horizons students.

On September 27th, we will hold our annual “Donuts with Dad” at DECC and New Horizons. Please mark your calendars to join us for this fun event!

Our teachers have planned a great year of field trips for our students. Parents, grandparents and guardians are always welcome! A volunteer application or update can be found on the District Website. Completing this form as soon as possible is recommended as getting approval can take up to thirty (30) days through our district office. All parents participating in fieldtrips will need to complete an application.

As always, the staff and I are available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.  Please feel free to contact us through our phone extensions or e-mail accounts.  Strong collaborative relationships are a key in our students’ success here at DECC and New Horizons!

Thank you,

Phyllis Clemons, Principal
